Adelaide is blessed to have a vibrant, independent and innovative centre for cinema. The Mercury Cinema runs a variety of programs to cater for diverse tastes. Films are shown as part of programs such as Seniors on Screen, Cinematheque Film Society, the Adelaide Fringe, Special Events and Film Festivals with films from around the world.
Seniors on Screen in 2016 Seniors on Screen has a film program of recently released films and classics screening three times a week. The big bonus is that these films are offered for Seniors (people over 50) for only $7, which includes a cuppa and biscuits. A real bargain for mature age cinema lovers.
The popular Seniors programme features films direct from the A-List film festival circuit as well as a selection of classics. The Mercury is a great place to stay up to date with the best cinema from around the world, as well as enjoy special events like Q&As and Behind the Scenes discussions. The 2016 season kicks off with the film Heavenly Nomadic on Friday, February 5th, Aferim! on Sunday, February 7th and Queen and Country on Tuesday, February 9th.
Meet Your Friends at the Cinema The Mercury is a good place in the city to meet up with with other cinema lovers. Public transport is the easiest method of travel to the theatre, with buses, train and tram options. Academy Award nominated films on the program to look forward to include Carol, Room, The Revenant, Brooklyn and Son of Saul. Other films on the eclectic program include Looking for Grace, Tanna, Virgin Mountain and Another Country.
Seniors on Screen is on at 10.45am on Tuesdays and Fridays and the newly created time slot of 4pm on Sundays. The Sunday time slot allows other workers to attend these popular screenings. The season commences on Friday February 5th, 2016. Find further info about the programme here
