Western Port Ferries has the perfect offer for senior card holders - free travel on weekends and public holidays. Western Port Ferries operates the passenger ferry service on spectacular Western Port Bay, sailing between Stony Point on the Mornington Peninsula, Tankerton on French Island and Cowes on Phillip Island.

The first leg takes 15 minutes, and then from French Island to Cowes takes another 30 minutes, so it's 45 minutes all up. As the ferry circuits, you can spend some time on French Island and get the next ferry or, in Cowes, spend a few hours.

Out at sea, soak up the sun and the sea breeze as you make your way to the islands, taking in the stunning views and breathing in the salty air.

At French Island, if you wish to stop, there are several hikes, or explore via mountain bike via the roads and cycleway,

Parks Victoria runs French Island National Park, and it has rocky shorelines and sandy beaches. It is famous for its koalas and the Long-nosed Potaroo and more than 580 indigenous plant species, including over 100 native orchid species.

Over 230 bird species have been recorded on French Island, including rare birds such as the White-Bellied Sea-Eagle, King Quail, and the Orange-Bellied Parrot, as well as 33 species of waders that forage along the coast at low tide.

Tip: Don't forget the Aerogard. Ross River virus is spread through mosquitos, of which there are many, and visitors to the island are strongly advised to be equipped with insect repellent.

Cowes on Phillip Island is as couth and touristy as French Island is rugged. A short walk from the dock is the main street with its avenue of Cyprus and every ice cream shop and pizzeria imaginable. There's even a mini-golf course. But also breweries and boutique shops.

Buying fish and chips and having it on the beach is always fun. And there are some lovely beach walks. The Cowes To Silverleaves via Lovers Lane is a nice walk along the shoreline that also takes in some of the gorgeous homes with their shoreline views. This is only a 1.8-km out-and-back walk and takes an average of 20 min to complete.

Redeeming this offer is easy - simply present your senior card to the ticketing staff or onboard crew. Booking this fare online can only be done in conjunction with another fare-paying passenger. Which is an issue if you are travelling solo.

If travelling alone, please contact the Customer Service Team, who can arrange for your Ticket over the phone. 03 5257 4565

Unsecured street Car parking is available at both Stony Point and Cowes.

Bicycles can travel on the ferry with the rider. Due to limited storage for push bikes/bicycles, they recommend that passengers intending to bring a push bike/bicycle book online. While the senior is free, the bicycle attracts a small fare.

Yes, you can travel with your dog and at no extra cost. However, the dog must be on a leash and is restricted to the external decks (not permitted in the passenger lounge.) The only exceptions are guide dogs (‘seeing eye’ dogs and ‘hearing’ dogs), who must accompany their owners into the passenger areas.

Be aware Monday to Friday public holidays (such as Cup Day) operate on the Saturday timetable.
