This place is so cute. Walking through the ornate wooden doors, diners are transported into a charming space. Red umbrellas, statues, a bamboo fountain, plants, wind-chimes and soft percussion music create ambience.

Authentic Indonesian cuisine awaits at Sendok Garpu by Bunda Alicia . Indonesian for spoon and fork, Sendok Garpu, located on Lambert Street at Indooroopilly, focuses on serving authentic Indonesian halal food.

Based on family recipes, the evolving menu places emphasis on fresh ingredients and aromatic spices. What started as a humble food stall at Coopers Plains in 2010 has transformed into two unique restaurants. The other restaurant is located at Coopers Plains.

Alicia is a self-taught chef and her passion for Indonesian food is evident when scanning the menu. Drawing inspiration from Indonesian food stalls, the menu provides a wide array of Indonesian dishes, incorporating rural and regional cuisines.

Main meals cost between $22 and $27 depending on the choice of meat. The majority of dishes are chicken, beef or seafood based. A number of gluten free meals are also available. Vegetarian dishes are approximately $17 and steamed rice is $2.50. A handful of dessert options are available including Bubur Ketan Item, black sticky rice with coconut milk.

Delight your taste buds with Mini Martabak Telor, Indonesian mini savoury crispy crepes; Nasi or Mie Goreng, fried rice or fried noodles; or Gado Gado, a boiled vegetable salad with peanut sauce. Drinks include the refreshing Es Kopyor, a coconut jelly, toddy palm, and pink syrup blend and the Es Cendol, homemade green mung bean jelly mixed with coconut and palm sugar syrup.

The Kari Ayam was filled with flavour. This dish was a chicken curry-like stew made with coconut milk. While rated as a medium spice, for a non-curry eater, this dish had bite, however the heat was not overwhelming.

The Javanese sweet soy sauce chicken stew, Tonseng Ayam, had a milder flavour and was served with plenty of tomato and cabbage.

The banquets are the best value for money. Two banquets are available - $30 and $40 per person for a minimum of four people. The $30 banquet includes starters of chicken satay and vegetable fritters, followed by a beef curry, stir fried vegetables in garlic sauce, deep-fried boiled eggs, Indonesian style fried egg noodles with seafood and slow cooked Javanese style chicken. The banquet is served with garlic crackers and steamed rice.

Take your taste buds on an Indonesian journey at Sendok Garpu by Bunda Alicia.
