I enjoy writing about Adelaide and its many attractions. If you think Adelaide is boring,
the problem is not with Adelaide.

Dodgem Cars and Cyclone Amusement Rides - Semaphore Summer Carnival
The Semaphore attractions bring many visitors throughout the year to this small seaside town. Fresh fish and chips on the jetty and fantastic food from local restaurants, friendly faces, and a fistful of festivals make Semaphore an awesome place to be any time of the year.
It's during the summer that Semaphore really kicks into gear though, when the Semaphore Summer Carnival comes to town. On top of the usual Semaphore attractions the Semaphore amusement park is full of fun things to do, with the seasonal arrival of more crazy carnival rides, stunning sideshows, and all the fun of the circus in town.
From mid December until the end of January, the Semaphore foreshore becomes the place to be for free things to do in Adelaide. A series of free family entertainment events will keep you coming back to ask for more, until it's all over with the final flash of the last fantastic free fireworks.
Adrenaline Zone Bounce n Slide - Semaphore Summer Carnival
Bring the family to the Semaphore foreshore from 11am on Saturday for the opening of the Semaphore Summer Carnival. Jump on the carnival rides in the amusement park, laugh at the grinning clowns in the sideshows, and get even with your friends on the dodgem cars.
From 6pm on Sunday, the Carols by the Sea entertainment starts. After singing sweetly at the Carols your performance will be rewarded with a flashy free fireworks show from 9.30pm. What a spectacular end to an evening of fun for kids!
Australia Day Crowd Waiting for the Free Fireworks at Semaphore Foreshore
Sadly the train doesn't run to Semaphore anymore, but you should think about using public transport rather than driving, as parking is at a premium at Semaphore in summer.
New Year's Eve - Sunday December 31 Bring the family down again on New Year's Eve, have a swim then get shaken on the Cyclone amusement park rides, have a stir on the water balls, or shoot some water gun fun in the sideshows.
There are two free fireworks shows on New Year's Eve, one at 9.30pm if the kids (or you) need to get to bed early. At midnight enjoy the last big bang of the day with the second set of spectacular fireworks.
Australia Day - January 26 People come from miles (kilometres?) around to the Seamphore attractions on Australia Day. Last year I saw a passing parade of vintage cars on the foreshore, and crowds of happy people everywhere cooling off at Semaphore beach. The restaurants were all busy, so get in early for some fresh fish and chips.
You only get one set of free fireworks this time, but at 9.30pm have your cameras ready because they will be spectacular.
Sunday Fun Days
Sundays in January are Fun Days from 2pm, with free things to do including live performers, family entertainment, magicians, or face painters. Check the website for details.
Semaphore Summer Carnival
Families with children won't want to miss the fun things to do throughout the Semaphore Summer Carnival. Please note that events may be cancelled if the temperature is over 39 degrees, or it's pouring with rain.
