2019 marks the 15th anniversary of Semaphore Music Festival! This year's festival offers a jam-packed program including the inaugural Down by the River project coinciding with the UNESCO Year of Indigenous Languages, plus original live music, dance, art, vintage fashion, quirky market stalls, an international food court and workshops.The festival kicks off on Friday 4 October with a sensational opening night at the Semaphore Workers Club presenting legend Andy Seymour and Adelaide's A-list supergroup - Hot Buttered Soul. The band features Urszula White as a guest vocalist, James Muller on guitar, Con Delo on Bass, Brad Polain on Drums and Paul White on Hammond. Supported by Courtney Robb & Snooks La Vie.In true western suburbs style, Pub Rock Rules over the October Long Weekend in Semaphore. Hotels, clubs and venues curate their own amazing shows, so get your besties together for a pub crawl and set the mood for the annual tradition. Hot tip – don't miss The Streamliners with psycho-billy trio from NSW, 19-Twenty, Semaphore Workers Club, Saturday, 5 October.Sunday 6 October and Monday 7 October the SMF will host two stages, two bars with Coopers' beer plus local wines, and the new international food court Flourish in Mundy Street. Don't miss the Hart Beat Market with art installations, vintage fashion and quirky stalls in the Packing Shed. Plus weaving, bead making and ukulele workshops. Don't forget your uke - strum along or have a yarn while you learn to weave.
SMF19 proudly drops the first release of local acts playing the Main Stage at Hart's Mill Flour Shed on Sunday 6 October, from 11am. The line-up includes Ollie English, Oh Lion, SEABASS, Fleur Green & the Keepers, Susan Lily & the Gorgeous Cowboys, Horse Lords, Cherry Pickers, Born on Monday Choir, Adelaide Ukulele Appreciation Society with Comedian Lori Bell as MC. See Ollie English new live studio recording of 'Holy Water' here .On Monday 7 October from 11am, the inaugural Down by the River Opening Ceremony will be held, featuring Jack Buckskin performing the Kaurna 'Welcome to Country'.
Internationally acclaimed Aboriginal singer-songwriter Frank Yamma will appear alongside Vonda Last, Corey Theatre, the MERRg, Eddie Peters & Friends, Dhungala Baarka and Of Desert & Sea Dance with Comedian MC Joshua Warrior, who will keep the tide high and the deadly vibes rolling. These important Aboriginal and Torres Strait artists will share their culture through storytelling, songwriting and dance in a concert that celebrates UNESCO Year of Indigenous Languages.Down by the River is an excellent opportunity to celebrate language, music and culture, says Creative Producer Debra Thorsen. "It is an honour to work with these artists. I feel humbled and moved listening to their stories and songs," she says.
