After being burned to the ground in the 2019/20 bushfires, the Selwyn Snow Resort has risen like a phoenix to provide a family-friendly snow experience right on Canberra's doorstep. The resort has been rebuilt bigger and better and will be ready to welcome skiers and boarders for the 2022 winter ski season.
If you haven't been to Selwyn Resort before, there are a few things that set it apart from the other NSW ski resorts. It's a fantastic option for beginner or young skiers and the ticket prices are the lowest in the NSW resorts making Selwyn a family-friendly option and a great place to try skiing or boarding without breaking the bank. If you don't ski or board and still want to enjoy the snow, the new Selwyn resort has expanded its snow play and toboggan areas so you can experience the winter magic without needing any lessons or previous snow experience.
If you do head to Selwyn, expect a low-key, relaxed snow experience. It may lack some big runs and glam apres ski experiences of the larger resorts but in terms of family friendliness and value for money, Selwyn is hard to beat. With a season-opening date set for 11 June 2022, the slopes will be ready and waiting - even if the sky doesn't drop any natural snow, the resort has upgraded its snowmaking capability to improve your chances of hitting the slopes.
The new-look resort has been designed to include more food options, improved toilet facilities and equipment and clothing hire available. You can also sign up for some lessons to make the most of your time on the mountain.
Selwyn Snow Resort is in Cabaramurra, around three hours from Canberra. The 2022 opening date is 11 July but details on times and pricing haven't been released yet. Keep a lookout at Selwyn Snow Resort for updates as the season gets closer.
