Winter is coming - Plan your Snowy family getaway now
From all indications, Autumn will be delayed this year. Consequently, we might also have a late Winter or a short one. But let's not speculate and leave weather prediction to the experts at the Bureau of Meteorology. Meanwhile, this is probably a good time to think about planning for the family getaway during the Winter school holidays.
The anticipation of our kids increased when pockets of snow started to be visible as we drove up to the Snowy Mountains.
The 2019 winter season rates are already up at Selwyn Snow Resort, reputed to be New South Wales' most family-friendly winter snow destination. Indeed, Selwyn lives up to its fame. The Selwyn Snow Resort in central Kosciusko National Park at the Snowy Mountains region is good for beginners, adult and children alike. The slopes are not so steep, anyone in the family can give skiing or tobogganing a go.
The landscape blanketed in snow brings chill and excitement particularly to those of us who lived most of our lives in the tropical regions.
The resort itself is not that big, but there is ample space for everyone. Activities include skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and tobogganing. We had a one-year-old child when we went last time and she enjoyed crawling and rolling on snow. We were fortunate to have visited just after a snowfall, everything was just white fresh.
The short walk from the carpark to the resort was already full of snow fun. We were lucky it snowed just before we visited.
As with the rest of the snow resorts in the Kosciusko National Park, bringing a car will entail payment of the park entry fee. The park entry pass can be purchased in Cooma, although in our case we obtained one at Adaminaby, where we stayed a few nights.
Use a four-wheel drive or be prepared to fit that snow chain to your tyres if you are driving to the Snowy.
