Looking for an adventure to enjoy on our Central Coast holiday, I came across Segway Central Coast. Excited to try something new, I booked a 1 hour ride. When we turned up on the day, we were greeted by the very friendly business owner, Ron.

Riding a Segway is a lot of fun and easy to learn

We were greeted by the very friendly Ron
Ron gave us a 10 minute safety briefing and explanation of how a Segway works. I was surprised to find the personal transporter's speed is controlled by your balance – lean forward and the Segway moves forward, lean slightly backwards and it stops, lean even further back and you move backwards. Push the handlebar to the either side and you turn to the left or right. You can even spin on the spot.

Helmet Safety Check
I was a little nervous at first, thinking I may not be able to balance properly, but with Ron's guidance, I was able to easily ride and navigate within a few minutes. My 11 year old son took to it like a duck to water. He was confidently zooming around almost as soon as he stepped on it.

Control the speed by your weight and balance
Ron took us on a ride around Mount Penang Gardens. We learned different techniques of how to tackle hills, ramps and different surfaces. The Segway easily handles roads, grassy areas, wooden ramps and even gravel roads. We got to try it all.

Ride up and down the hill

The Segway rides easily on most surfaces
Excited to conquer every challenge that Ron put in our way, we couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces. It also helped to be encouraged every step of the way and be given a pat on the back with each new obstacle that we had overcome.

For safety, you are provided with a helmet and it is a good idea to wear enclosed comfortable shoes. I would also encourage you to bring a small bottle of water, especially if you are taking the 1 hour or 1.5 hour ride.
Segway is a lot of fun and easy to learn whether you are 9 or 99. You can ride as long as you weigh between 40 – 117kg and are over the age of 9 years. Each group can have up to 9 riders and you are guided by Ron or one of his assistants. To book online visit the
Segway Central Coast website or call them directly on 0403 354 568.
The cost is:
45 adults/$35 kids for a 30 minute fun ride,
80 adults/$65 kids for a 60 minute adventure ride and
100 adults/$85 kids for a 90 minute adventure plus ride.

Taking a 1 hour ride
It is difficult to explain the feeling you get riding a Segway, but it is definitely thrilling and exciting – to me it was a little bit like riding a jet ski, only easier.
So if you are looking for something different to do, book in for a Segway ride and if your budget allows, take the 1 hour or 1.5 hour ride. The time flies so quickly that you will not want to stop.
After your ride, enjoy a cool drink or ice cream at the Waterfall Cafe in the beautiful Mount Penang Gardens. Parking is plentiful and you will also find toilets nearby.
