Regional show days give rural towns the opportunity to show off their local produce as well as their local pride. They also give visitors the opportunity to eat loads of fried food, purchase tonnes of delicious home baked sweets and waste too much money on games of chance - all in the name of a good time, of course!

The Toowoomba Heritage Royal Show takes place on 31 March until 2 April at the showgrounds&aq=&sll=-27.578895,153.115082&sspn=0.573326,1.347198&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Toowoomba Showground, Toowoomba Queensland 4350&ll=-27.559417,151.880407&spn=0.035839,0.0842&z=14&iwloc=A Royal Toowoomba Showgrounds from 6.00pm until 9.00pm. The show features everything you'd expect from a country show such as show jumping, cattle judging, wood chopping competitions, demolition derby, bake offs and a huge range of country crafts (from leather craft to photography to floriculture). There will also be rides, games and food stalls, and organisers are still taking expressions of interest from potential stall holders.

The Ipswich Show will showcase the talents of local growers, breeders and artists, with cattle, poultry, photography, horticulture, beer and wine, fruit, vegetables and creative crafts amongst a long list of items that will come under the judges critical eye. And speaking of judging, the Ipswich Miss Showgirl pageant is open to girls aged eighteen to twenty-seven. The Ipswich Show runs from 13 until 15 May at the showgrounds&aq=&sll=-27.386401,152.149658&sspn=2.175276,5.388794&ie=UTF8&rq=1&ev=zi&split=1&filter=0&hq=ipswich showgrounds&hnear=&ll=-27.626813,152.753391&spn=0.016958,0.0421&z=15&iwloc=A Ipswich Showground .

The Brookfield Show celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010 and returns from 20 until 22 May in 2011 for more show fun. There's a little bit of everything here –prize winning horses, dog shows and bird watching; animal shows in the show ring; rides and games in sideshow alley; cookery demonstrations and arts and crafts displays; and drinking and live music at the Happy Hour Bar or the Top Bar.

In addition to the usual animal judging and shows, the Caboolture Show local residents a chance to shine. The Miss Showgirl competition gives a local girl aged eighteen to twenty seven the opportunity to represent her area in the state competition and the rodeo, ute muster and rural ambassador events give locals a chance to show off their talents. The 83rd Caboolture Show takes place from 10 until 12 June at the showgrounds&aq=&sll=-27.626813,152.753391&sspn=0.016958,0.0421&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Caboolture Showground, Brisbane Queensland 4510&ll=-27.063865,152.946339&spn=0.036,0.0842&z=14&iwloc=A Caboolture Showgrounds .

And the Beaudesert Show has more than 4000 exhibits on display, showcasing everything from agriculture to craft to homebrew beer. The horse show is the drawcard event, with more than 400 classes catering to all ages, while cattle, sheep, goats, dogs and other animals are also featured. After sunset, there's the Bull and Bronc show, demolition derby, rides and fireworks. The Beaudesert show takes place from 9 until 10 September at the Beaudesert Showgrounds.

So grab your cowboy hat and head to a country town for homemade cakes, prize winning animals and good old fashioned hospitality.
