This little-hidden treasure located in the treetops in Montville, on the shores of Lake Baroon, was my choice for a birthday breakfast recently, and as you will soon realise, I definitely hit the jackpot!

The stunning Secrets on the Lake Cafe venue boasts panoramic views of water, mountains and rainforest and has been crafted throughout with exquisite wood carvings, the minuscule attention to detail subtly enhancing the harmonisation with its tranquil surrounds.

The location of Secrets on the Lake Cafe is deliciously secretive; no matter how many times I write about this gem in Montville, every time I visit, there's a new delightful surprise just waiting to be discovered. A while back I included Secrets on the Lake in Beautiful Wedding Venues with a View and more recently, in an article I did Day tripping through the Sunshine Coast Hinterland - it's just that sort of venue, that no matter the occasion, Secrets on the Lake will successfully fill the criteria.

Secrets on the Lake Cafe has indoor and outdoor seating - perfect for changing weather conditions. On a previous visit to Secrets Cafe, I had noticed a quaint gazebo-style section that formed part of the outdoor seating, but was almost a 'secret' - giving off a more private and personal ambience. This was my choice of seating for our breakfast, as I just knew the special little man in our lives, who is on the spectrum, would appreciate being slightly away from the busyness of other diners. I must mention here that this specific seating area is usually only available for six or more diners. Fortuitously for me, our time choice for breakfast was not exceptionally busy and the staff were very happy to pander to my desires, allowing us the exclusive use of this seating area.

As a memorable touch for my birthday celebration, pink roses, a colourful birthday message and feminine pink sashes were used to adorn the seats, making me feel like the proverbial 'princess for a day!' It's the little touches that go a long way to making one's celebration that extra special.

Breakfast times at Secrets on the Lake Cafe start at 8.30am - with last orders being taken at 10.45am. I was particularly impressed with the Breakfast Menu, 'big' enough to satisfy all breakfast wishes, but 'small' enough to not boggle the mind with too many choices. I always think that too extensive a menu could create major hold-ups in the kitchen (just my opinion), whereas a boutique-style menu allows for food to be prepared freshly and with love, for every meal.

As it was my special day - which only comes once a year - I decided to treat myself to something totally decadent: Belgian Style Waffles, with Maple Syrup, Chantilly Cream and Fresh Seasonal Berries for $18. Oh my gosh, my waffles were absolutely perfect! The portion size was just right; a taste-sensation second to none, not too sweet, with the cream successfully toning down the Maple syrup sweetness and the in-season strawberries giving me a gentle nudge towards 'healthiness'!

Hubby's choice for breakfast was the Secrets Forager - a man-sized portion of Baked Truffled Flat Mushrooms, Herb Roasted Tomato, Avocado, Grilled Haloumi, Smoked Barbecue Baked Beans, Eggs and Toasted Sourdough for $24. Hubby's verdict: Excellent!

Secrets on the Lake is an absolutely stunning venue for breakfast, whether it's an intimate occasion or for families or groups. In the heat of summer the tree canopy provides a welcoming respite from hot days, whilst on a crisp winter's morning, guests can snuggle up with cosy knee rugs and enjoy the warmth of heaters on the deck. After breakfast, it goes without saying, that guests to this very special spot, should explore. Secrets on the Lake have their very own Art Gallery, Secrets on the Lake Art Gallery.

A variety of local artists have been specifically hand-chosen to bring an eclectic mix of styles and subjects to this unusual gallery, all of which successfully compliment the unique art space. The gallery has been designed by the owner and his son in a way to showcase both the artwork inside and the landscape outside, with windows framing the rainforest and offering window-framed glimpses of Lake Baroon.

Secrets on the Lake Cafe are also available for High Teas, whether it be a Secrets High Tea for $35; a Champagne High Tea for $40 or a Chocolate Delight High Tea** for $45. Please click here to view inclusions in the High Tea Packages.

All High Teas need to be booked in advance and paid for, in full, prior to your event. High Teas organised and served on a Sunday incur a surcharge. Gluten Free options are available for High Tea at an additional $5 per person.

Secrets on the Lake Café's waiting staff are efficient, extremely helpful and friendly. I do believe that every diner at Secrets on the Lake Caf leaves somewhat reluctantly, but with a feeling of enrichment, of being made to feel 'extra special'. I highly recommend a visit to Secrets on the Lake Cafe - everybody deserves to be treated like a princess - or a prince - for a day!
