I was randomly told of this unique event by an arts promoter in a funky bar on Brunswick St. I've been to two of the heats and it's just got more and more popular with each month.
This month's meeting will see ELEVEN and Jack Douglas going at it, the grand semi final. It's going to be messy! These were the two worthy winners of the two heats I was lucky enough to witness. They're pretty similar in style and wit so I'm predicting an edgy battle where my loyalty will be well and truly put to the test. (Jack Douglas played out an impressive first battle and I currently live in South Melbourne where a lot of his graffiti is displayed, got to support my home boy).
But ELEVEN has good bravado about him, describing himself as ... "Eleven, the double one and only; the fastest snail known to man and only crawling across the cold, early morning sidewalk faster each day."
It's held at the Order of Melbourne on Swanston St. If you've ever been there before Secret Walls found its Melbourne base, you may have noticed the walls going up to the bar were pretty bare. Secret Wall competitors have splashed a bit of vibrancy onto what was once a dreary corridor which has really transformed the space.
See you there, the secret's out. Wednesday 31st October and beyond. The Grand Final is scheduled for Wednesday 28 November.
