Located in the heart of the city, just off Murray Street and down an alleyway, the Secret Garden Café is one of Perth's remaining hidden gems. The coffee is of the highest quality, prepared by friendly baristas and very reasonable priced ($3.30 for an espresso and $3.80 for a cappuccino or latte). Forget your boring generic coffee franchises, this place is a must.
The wooden outdoor tables give this place a welcoming and down to earth atmosphere for people of all walks of life, from uni students to travellers, to business professionals. There is also an alfresco area located at the back decorated with frames and mirrors on the wall, complimented by 'a secret garden' if you will. This place has a rustic charm and relaxed ambiance generally only found on lazy Sunday mornings.
The kitchen offers a great selection of breakfast and lunch meals. I can personally recommend the house-made banana and almond bread for breakfast. With the standard muesli, blueberry pancakes and organic fruit toast also on offer. For the lunch menu, the chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich was delicious, however the Quinoa Mediterranean Salad was a bit disappointing - nice dressing but the quinoa is not for all tastes. Notably there is a variety of vegetarian meals on the lunch menu such as the Mushroom and Haloumi burger, the Veggie Wrap of the Day, the Burrito (can also add chicken) and the Danish Feta and Tomato. So many places have inadequate offerings for vegetarian meals, however this place is a nice (and healthy) change to the norm. All meals are less than $20.
