Giving prisoners & their families a second chance
Second Chance Op Shop is turning eleven and to celebrate they are hosting a free barbeque along with every item in the op shop being half price on Friday 12th October 2018. All proceeds from this event will go to Second Chances SA.
Second Chances SA is a non-profit volunteer organisation whose goal is to restore hope in the lives of prisoners, their families and communities across South Australia. Their programs are designed for prisoners' kids (PKs) to overcome adversities and create better futures for themselves. These programs are custom-built to suit individual circumstances and aim at breaking the cycle of crime in the new generations. The organisation also focuses on giving prisoners the opportunity to turn their lives around, restoring their hope in society and their own futures.
It is documented that children and youth with a parent in prison are six times more likely to also end up in prison. Through Second Chances SA continued support and mentoring programs, their goal to prevent generational crime. Communities also need support and encouragement to believe people can change and live new lives free of crime.
If you cannot make it to the bar-be-que event, you can donate through their Website. All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible and a receipt will be issued. Otherwise, bank details are shown on their website.
Second Chance Op Shop is located at 397 Diagonal Road, Sturt and festivities commence at 11.30am.
