You know those evenings when nobody can be bothered to cook but you don't want to eat a meal from a chain outlet either?

Well, if you reside in Brisbane's Redlands District, have I found the venue for you!

Seafood Tale may appear a little rough around the edges with a small outside eating area consisting of a couple of wooden tabletops and a dozen chairs. It is also well hidden from most shoppers visiting the Birkdale Woolworths Complex on Birkdale Road, which is a good thing in that it attracts only the keenest lovers of fish and chips.

Its saving grace is the fresh, inexpensive fish and chip meals, or if you prefer, seafood cuts that you can take home to cook. But who wants to do that, right?

We enjoyed the cod, chips and salad special for $10.90. Mine was lightly battered and a friend (with far more willpower with respect to dieting) enjoyed the grilled version. Both were delicious and satisfying.

Seafood Tale also have all the usual seafood accoutrements on the menu, such as prawn cutlets, calamari rings and designated kid's meals. For those who aren't fond of the white flesh burgers, dagwood dogs and an assortment of fritters are also available. You can purchase soft drinks or a coffee, or you can BYO. When we visited, there was a party happening at one of the tables accompanied by a seafood platter and a bottle of bubbles. As it is a casual venue, children are most welcome.

Years ago, Seafood Tale had the reputation of serving the best chips in Brisbane, and who doesn't like a good chip! The take-away packs are hugely popular.
