SeaFire is a unique fireworks event and is billed as the largest annual public event of the calendar, with 3 different fireworks production companies competing to be the 2018 champions. Combine this with the Beachfront Markets and other Gold Coast activities and attractions and you have a great day or evening out down the coast.

What is SeaFire

Fireworks, they are everywhere and a great spectacle for the whole family. SeaFire takes this up a notch by bringing together 3 of the world's leading fireworks production companies to compete for the championship.

When and where

The fireworks start at 7 pm and with 3 different firework performances, it should go on for at least an hour. You will want to get there early to find a good spot, though you should be able to find a spot easily enough along Surfers Paradise Beach.

I highly recommend bringing a picnic blanket or beach towel to sit on while waiting and watching. The beach venue for fireworks means that there is less standing around waiting and more relaxing by the beach. But rug up as the weather is likely to turn cooler after sunset.

Other things to do on an afternoon or evening at Surfers Paradise

Local Gold Coast people can enjoy the event as an evening out, but anyone tempted to come from further afield will be looking to make a day of it. These include

Visit the Beachfront Markets, which open at 4 pm and close at 9 pm. Selling a wide range of local and fun products, this market overlooks Surfers Paradise Beach.

Have dinner at Surfers Paradise. My preference would be to grab some fish and chips from a takeaway shop and eat them on the beach, but there's a wide range of dining options in the area, from cheap pizza slices through to cafes, nice restaurants and more. Look for restaurants with discount specials on offer.
Do a bit of shopping. Whether you are heading south to the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre in Broadbeach, north to the Marina Mirage in Main Beach or enjoying the shopping malls or fun tourist orientated shops at Surfers Paradise, there is something for every shopper on the Gold Coast
Visit the beach. Though it is likely that it will be too cold to swim, you can still enjoy a walk along the beachfront. If you haven't been to Surfers Paradise before, the best walk is to head north towards Main Beach and Macintosh Island Park.
Do something touristy, like go up Q1 or visit Ripley's Believe It Or Not. There are many fun things to spend your money on in Surfers Paradise.

Keep partying on, after all, Surfers Paradise is a party destination, so go early, see the fireworks, then make a night of it.

Getting there

Driving is an option, but I would recommend pre-booking your car park before you go, especially if you are arriving just before the event. Public transportation is a better option with the train from Brisbane, the G:link tram from Helensvale through to Broadbeach and a bus from Nerang Station. You can choose to drive and park where you can catch a bus or the tram to Surfers Paradise, taking the hassle out of parking on an event day.
