The Seafarers Multicultural Festival is a three day long celebration of exotic cultures, wonderful food and euphonious music. This festival is a celebration of the multicultural diversity of the East Gippsland promoting Aboriginal arts, performing arts, healthy food, community cultural heritage, music and visual arts while providing impetus towards a better and brighter future for all of us.
Set in gorgeous Lakes Entrance, this wonderful festival will commence on Friday, the 30 November and will be a joyous congregation of world-class chefs, talented musicians, aspiring sportsmen and general public.
This event will be heralded by a cooking demonstration by the Ambassador and celebrity chef Paul Mercurio who is renowned for his lead role in Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom in 1992. Another celebrity to grace the red carpet of this festival will be Mark Olive of The Black Olive, who has been a chef for over 25 years. Watch these illustrious chefs cook up a storm while wowing the audience.
On the night of the opening day, 30 November 2012, Feast of St Nicholas will entice guests with a scrumptious offering of great food and excellent wine. A marquee will be set up on the foreshore overlooking the water where a three course dinner will be enjoyed while serenaded by live music from international artists. On 1 December 2012, the parade of St Nicholas will regale the onlookers with a colourful display of festoons. If you are keen to engage in this parade then contact Yvonne Jackson on 5155 1152. Other featured events encompass the Blessing of the Fleet, model boat display, cooking demonstrations, an animal petting farm with pony rides and a number of activities for the little ones.
On the last day of the festival, 2 December 2012, there will be a lineup of more exciting events incorporating a Triathalon Rapid Raft Race Sports Challenge while local producers will be promoting their fresh produce in a wide variety of stalls and much more.
The trialthon event will be organised by the Riviera Trialthlon Club on the Village Green. This competition will be open to juniors (12 plus) and beginner triathletes, and can be undertaken in a team or as an individual participant. All participants will be required to complete a 200m swim/10km bike/2km run.Following the tradition, this event will include a swim in Cunningham Arm and flat, multi-lapped bike/run course along the Esplanade. The circuit will be closed to traffic, ensuring that it is a fast, exciting and a safe bike course for the participants in the heart of the town. The fun and excitement of this unmissable event has been amplified by the provision of rewarding prize money to the winners in the sprint tri, awards for all placegetters and spot prizes for all participants.
