Clean-Up Australia day is one of those great events where you can take part no matter where you are - every little bit helps. If you prefer a more organised approach, there are groups all over the country that you can join in their clean-up efforts. This year Adelaide's Sea Shepherd group will be tackling Brighton Beach on March 6th - a Clean Up Australia Day event that ties in to their bigger Marine Debris Campaign .

You can register for the event on the Clean Up Australia Day website . The clean up crew will be meeting and the start of the Brighton Jetty at 10am and then working their way along the beach.

Cleaning up at the beach doesn't just keep the sand spotless for beachgoers, it helps prevent rubbish from making its way into our oceans. There it can do damage to marine life of all shapes and sizes. At the end of February the Sea Shepherd team took to Grange Beach and ended up collecting over 4000 pieces of rubbish.

If you want to get along make sure you're prepared. It's going to be a hot weekend, so make sure you pack:
Water, sunscreen and a hat to keep you hydrated and sun safe
A bucket to collect rubbish
Strong gloves
Enclosed shoes

For more information check out the Sea Shepherd Adelaide Facebook page . If you can't make it along to Brighton Beach, consider joining one of the other Clean Up Australia Day groups meeting around Adelaide, or just get out into the streets and start picking up rubbish in your own neighbourhood.
