Watch the waves, whales and birdlife
Enjoy the sea breeze and spacious views as you drive down the coast and marvel at the amazing engineering feat of this $52 million bridge. It is a balanced cantilever bridge that links the coastal villages of Coal Cliff and Clifton along the Grand Pacific Drive. A one hundred and forty kilometre scenic coastal drive with meandering bends which reveal vistas of amazing ocean and cliff views.

Sea Cliff Bridge's sweeping curves

Snake shaped it majestically sweeps out over the ocean with the cliff face a safe distance rising up like a wall giving a feeling of exotic grandeur. The walk across it offers clear views into the rock outcrops and aqua water below where one might spy whales, dolphins, manta rays and a variety of birdlife including nesting eagles

A route I frequented for many decades as we have commuted between Sydney and the South Coast. This pleasurable drive provides a welcome alternative to the fast multi-laned highway where one used to compete with the local coal trucks delivering their loads to the port. That original road was subject to rockslides that posed treacherous to traffic triggered by constant erosion from the elements, yet the scenic beauty captivated any daring to risk its windy splendour.

Stanwell Tops is a favourite scenic outlook before reaching this bridge and it is now a buzzing jump off point for the paragliding community, who literally step off the cliff edge and are immediately pulled up in the updraft to glide elegantly around the hills and cliff faces. Below is a large park with picnic and play areas with a kiosk that is the main landing point for these adventurers.
