Sculptures in the Garden is run by Wollongong City Council as a competition for some new artwork. This year there are 14 sculptures throughout the Wollongong Botanic Garden until 28 March. The works have been created by local, national and international artists based on the theme 'Illawarra 200 Shared Values, Shared Futures'.

The works are place throughout the main areas of the garden. The garden is open daily from 7am to 6pm. The garden will be closed on 25 March being Good Friday.

The winning sculpture gets a permanent spot in the garden and the artist wins $30,000.00. There is a People's Choice Award where you can vote on the Council website and the winning artist wins $3,000.00. The Council are also running and Instagram photo competition where you tag your photo on instagram with #wbasa.

Into the Future by Ralph Tikerpae


The Friends of Wollongong Botanic Garden Florilegium Art Group will be displaying their botanical paintings in the Towri Centre every day while the sculptures are out. The Botanic Gardens will be having guided tours of the sculptures and talks on the weekends with arrange of other activities.

What is Illawarra 200? 2015-2016 marks the bicentenary of the European Settlement in the Illawarra. Wollongong and Shellharbour Council are hosting arrange of multi-cultural events to celebrate the settlement.
