Ever wondered who invented Vegemite? What about if Australia really has a national dish? NO - don't Google it. Treat yourself to a relaxing and real life browse in Scrumptious Reads (5/19 James St, Fortitude Valley) instead.

This gorgeous bookshop sells cook books and nothing but cooks books. As a lover of lush food photographs and creative recipe ideas, I could think of nothing better. But even I was surprised at the breadth of food-related books on sale.

Spotted on the shelves was a culinary history of Australia, a gorgeous cereal serial magazine featuring close up shots of grains (really! Amazing patterns and texture when you get up close.), a tea encyclopaedia, and one book that only featured avocado recipes. These unique books make this shop perfect for a causal browse, and make it very hard to walk away empty handed. I think it would also be perfect for selecting housewarming, wedding and family gifts.

And don't worry, Scrumptious Reads stocks those classic, can't do without cook books like Stephanie Alexander and Elizabeth David. It also has lovely books to fill with your own recipes, other cute stationary items and - get this - fresh local honey!
