No scratching around for bargains at Scroungers Big Christmas Garage Sale on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, with all goods displayed in plain sight to facilitate your brief three hours 'happy place' experience.
With only three hours, I suggest a quick scout of the venue on arrival. Upon entering the auditorium, take a stroll around the aisles and get the 'lay of the land' (nabbing any bargains along the way), then concentrate on your items of interest and scrounge at your leisure. The savvy scrounger knows that is well worth the restraint, to find what you want, and yet still see everything in three hours. If your technique is to rush in and free-range scrounge, then go for it.
Massive area full of bargains
Scroungers Garage Sales occur only three times a year, resulting in a vast and varied selection of goods, just right for that early Christmas gift. I find it wise to regularly check their Facebook page for the latest updates.
Abundant space inside the massive auditorium (wheel chair and pusher friendly), an undercover veranda (sausage sizzle and gourmet coffee) and large grassed area, create a friendly and relaxed environment for an easy browse. A snack from the cafe, plus free parking and toilets complete your enjoyable experience.
Just inside the auditorium entrance, the Cafe caters for all your coffee, snacks, pies, cakes, and soft drink needs. In addition, indulge in a comforting hot drink from the gourmet coffee machine, kindly donated by Nino Sapienza from Direct Coffee Supplies, situated outside right next to the sausage sizzle.
Time goes quickly when there is so much to see. Secondhand and NEW clothes, shoes, handbags and coats in various styles and sizes, children's toys, office furniture and everything in between, is there for the finding.
Pick up a pack or two (at a bargain price) of these unique recycled cotton towels, rescued from being sent to landfill after a single use drying a surgeon's hands (after sterilisation). These high-quality cotton towels are highly absorbent and the 'word' on the street is that they are excellent for cleaning stainless steel.
A finished Pack of 5 Recycled Towels at $2.00 per pack.
As a contingency, some brown paper bags are available for purchase, at $2.00 per bag. However, Scroungers ask you to bring your own bags and shopping trolleys as there is a limited supply of these bags available.
About 65 volunteers will be on hand to assist you during the sale with all money raised going to the registered charity, Spine & Limb Foundation of which ParaQuad Industries is a division. ParaQuad Industries is an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) their mission being to provide employment and vocational educational opportunities to about 150 people with a broad range of disabilities, both physical and intellectual. Volunteers are welcome to help set up or run the Scroungers sale. Please call (08) 9381 0195 if you would like to help.
I doubt that you will discover a wider variety of good quality furniture, kitchenware, bric-a-brac white elephant, collectables, board games, sporting goods, camping gear, DVDs, books, white goods, household items and toys, all priced to sell, with thousands of bargains to choose from. The goods on display all being donations received either through ParaQuad's network of charity bins situated throughout the Perth Metropolitan area or through their on-site donation point.
Book Bazaar and Opportunity Knocks
Here is your chance for a quick look at two resident gems, but do not despair, Book Bazaar (8:30am to 4:00pm) and Opportunity Knocks (8:00am to 4:00pm) are open Monday to Friday for your convenience and more time to browse.
Across the grassed area, Book Bazaar opens especially, with a massive display of quality used books and other items. Just for Scroungers, all car manuals will be half price, plus a big selection of $1.00 books (fiction and non-fiction). I guarantee you will need to return for a longer browse during business hours to appreciate this unique bookshop.
Opportunity Knocks retro and pre-loved clothing store is open with an impressive selection of good quality furniture (maybe an antique or two), white goods, household items, toys and bric-a-brac at bargain prices. Beware, this can take up all the morning, but do not despair as they are open during the working week.
Free parking and public toilets
Come prepared with an empty boot and take advantage of the convenient FREE PARKING and public toilets; with only three hours to load your bargains, every moment counts.
When arriving at 10 Selby Street, turn off into a little (privately owned, by Spine & Limb Foundation) road called Ellis Griffiths Avenue. The ParaQuad building is about 300m along Ellis Griffiths Avenue. This will be easy enough to find for a good scrounger, then follow the signs to a perfect parking spot.
Para-Quad Industries is a division of the Spine & Limb Foundation and proceeds assist-disabled persons.
