There is something so satisfying about watching your own creative design being printed permanently onto fabric and there just happens to be a cool little art gallery/store down a Fortitude Valley alley that offers children and adults the chance to do just that.

The boutique art studio at Poly Gone Cowboy is open for adult workshops every Wednesday evening (from 6pm - 8pm), and during the school holidays they run busy children's workshops. Workshop participants may choose from the studio's image library or take along their own image for screen printing onto bandannas, t-shirts or calico bags.

Boutique Studio Workshops:

After a quick look around the current exhibition on display in the gallery (highly recommended), I joined in with their last introductory workshop. Our creative gurus, Sam and Ania patiently explained in easy to follow steps, the details about silk screens, applying emulsion, light boxes and stencils, and I definitely came away with a deeper appreciation of the screen printing process. Another fellow workshop participant created an inspiring t-shirt design and the rest of us left with a personally designed hand printed calico bag.

The introductory workshops run for 2 hours and are held in a small class size of up to 6 persons. Each class covers the basics of DIY screen printing and is held in an informal and relaxed social setting. There is an emphasis on sharing the creative potential of the screen printing process, including screen exposure using photographic emulsion and printing techniques. You are welcome to use your own single colour design (which should be emailed to Poly Gone Cowboy 24 hours prior to the class) or choose from a selection of imagery and text on acetate stencils that can be used to collage your own unique design.Participants are free to bring along drinks (beer, wine, soft-drink, coffee etc) or you can purchase pour-over coffee, tea and soft drinks from the shopfront. The workshop fee is $50 per person, which can be paid in advance via bank transfer or in cash on the night at the beginning of the class. The workshop fee includes all material costs, including one t-shirt or calico tote bag.**Bookings essential, phone 07 3162 3036 or email
[email protected] to reserve your place in the workshop.**Team bonding workshops and kids school holiday workshops are also available. Other session times including on the weekends and during week are available upon request (minimum 3 persons). This workshop would be ideal for anyone wanting to create a series of t-shirts or bags for an upcoming event or gathering and are a great way to keep kids occupied creatively during the school holidays.
