With spring's warmer weather upon us now, it's the perfect time to catch a movie under the stars and Screen on the Green has a couple of recent releases to watch for free, along with free popcorn and fairy floss.

Bring a rug to Hornsby Park and enjoy the great outdoors with a screening of Peter Rabbit on Friday 21 September and The Greatest Showman on Saturday 22 September. Live entertainment and activities will complement these nights and include Kids on Congas with Arlo the Dinosaur and The Snors Family (aka Beeswax and Bottlecaps) roaming entertainers performing breathtaking acrobatic acts with their penny farthing bike. Delicious food trucks will be on hand too or you can prepare your own picnic.

A bit about each film:-

Peter Rabbit

Based on the stories of Beatrix Potter, this Peter Rabbit tale sees Peter, his three sisters (Flopsy, Mopsy & Cotton-Tail) and his cousin Benjamin Bunny enjoying their time in Mr McGregor's vegetable garden. The unimaginable then happens with the sudden passing of the owner and the moving in of his nephew Thomas.

The new owner hatches scheme after scheme to try to get rid of Peter and it isn't too long before war breaks out between the two with the setting up of traps and other offensive nuisances.

Live action actors include Sam Neill as Mr McGregor and Rose Byrne as Bea, whilst animated characters are brought to life through the voices of James Corden as Peter Rabbit, Margot Robbie as Flopsy and Daisy Ridley as Cotton-Tail.

The animals are cute and the kids will love it.

The Greatest Showman

Celebrating the birth of show business, this one tells of visionary P.T. Barnum that rose from nothing to become a worldwide sensation with his creation of Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Showcasing the lives of the star attractions as well, it's a musical film starring handsomes Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron with female counterparts Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.

It has been nominated for various awards with wins for some of the actors, the songs and sound editing. It's one the whole family will enjoy.

Getting there

The park is located within walking distance from Hornsby train station. There's also several car parks nearby should you wish to drive.

Patrons with deck chairs, bean bags and prams will be asked to sit behind a designated point so that all will have visibility on the night. No glass or dogs allowed.

Gates open at 5.30pm each night, with movies beginning at 7pm.
