Making new friends and a good cuppa is the best way to start anybody's day
You are invited! Image: Sconetime FB
From
'Woop-Woop' to
'Timbuktu' and everywhere in between, over the years Sconetime has taken off like a wild steam train, with local communities jumping on board in support of local
Sunshine Coast Foodie, Martin Duncan, the dynamo behind Sconetime - a community morning tea held every month at various venues around the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast Foodie
aka Martin Duncan’s inspiration for Sconetime came from him watching a social media video that tugged at his heartstrings. It showed a 96-year-old named Georgina in the UK, with no family of her own, attending a morning tea, and served to highlight how loneliness and disconnect affect so many within our senior communities. And that’s when Martin’s eureka moment hit – scones
CAN bring people together!

For Martin, scones have always been more than just a tasty treat – they create a fabulous opportunity to connect people. In the past, Martin ran dessert cafes in Brisbane and would host monthly catch-ups with Paddington and Rosalie traders. These days, it’s all about keeping the community spirit alive and
Sunshine Coast Foodie is succeeding with great finesse!
Kicking off in Cooroy in 2018, this very popular social event hasn’t just grown in numbers, it’s spread like wildfire to new locations all over the Sunshine Coast. Looking for a scone fix? Everyone’s favourite social event is now available in Beerwah, Caloundra, Cooroy,
Buderim and Nambour, ensuring that the scone love is well shared.

But more than just having a delicious scone and a cuppa, it’s the awesome Sconetime volunteers, who bring the people together, swapping stories, sharing laughs and celebrating the history of the old treasured halls and the wonderful people who have filled them over the years. It’s a social event that is all about creating real and meaningful community connections.
Local companies are invited to contribute financially to help subsidise the cost of a Sconetime monthly gathering in their local area. Alternatively, local businesses can donate time (volunteering or table hosting) or simply pay it forward for a guest (and carer) to attend one of these social get-togethers, as a one-off attendance. By involving local companies, it is hoped that these events will continue to generate a positive social outcome in the community and enough income to cover the running costs, to ensure ongoing success.
