Imagine You're in Italy and you Could Be there
I have been admiring this café for a long time now. It looks like a bustling, modern cafe you would find in Italy. Scintilla Cafe has floor-to-ceiling windows, modern furnishings and lots of outdoor settings.

There is a big range of ready-made savory snacks, cakes and biscuits or you can order freshly made food. I thought the prices were very reasonable, for example Scintilla's famous open grilled cheese was only $12. This is served on a thick Vienna toast with tomato.

The veggie stack includes spinach, avocado with baked bean pancakes and hollandaise sauce and a poached egg for $16. The risottos are only $15. They also serve pastas, burgers, mains and salads from $9 to $16.

Make sure you're hungry

Kids meals are pretty typically nuggets and chips, spaghetti Bolognese, baby bacon and eggs and are only $8.

We went for lunch and my son chose Eggs Titanic that was beautifully served. For $16 he got two poached eggs, smoked salmon on an English muffin and what he described as a very tasty Hollandaise sauce. He asked full mushrooms on the side and received a very generous serve.

Eggs Titanic - A Masterpiece

I swear I had every intention when I went to the counter to purchase one of the savory treats however the cheesecakes exerted an extraordinary amount of power over me. The baked caramel cheesecake …OMG, had coconut in the base and was not overly sweet, which is just the way I love it. It didn't look large so I stretched it out savoring small mouthfuls. If I had my time all over again I would choose more cakes for lunch.... and leave the car roof open more often regardless of the effect on my hair.

Look out for this magnetic cheesecake

If you're lucky you can get parking on Burgundy Street and there's plenty of free parking at the back near Leo's fine food and wine supermarket. While you are there make sure you have time to peruse some of the excellent breads, pastas and other delicacies.

Scintilla Cafe serves all day breakfasts as well as a selection of light meals, snacks and the best-roasted coffee around. Phone orders are also welcome.

What would you choose?

The Scintilla Cafe website boasts that you will want to keep coming back for more…and I do. Next time I really want to try the famous open grilled cheese but I will have to be strong, the lemon meringue is very seductive.
