Book for one of these animals related events
If you are looking for something to do with your children these school holidays, look no further than this list! It is three events that are related to animals and these will be fun as well as educational. It will also get the children away from those indoor technology devices for several hours and out in the fresh air and bush!
Bush Detectives This program is for 5 to 12-year-olds and is run by ParksWide, City of Whitehorse, and here your child or children can learn to be a bush detective!
This will have children looking for the animals of the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary. They will be looking for signs that animals have been there before you. They will then attempt to track them down in order to catch a glimpse of the animal before they move on.
Children will need to use their observations skills to try and track down a few of the locals of this sanctuary.
They will meet at the visitor centre for registration and need to wear a hat, sunscreen and suitable enclosed footwear. It is also a good idea to bring along a water bottle as well. There are toilet facilities available should they be required.
It will be held on Monday 21st January, from 10.00 am to 12 noon. It will be on at the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, visitor information centre, 95 Central Road, Blackburn.
Please note the following:
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
If there is a total fire ban that day, the event will be cancelled. Please check this site the evening before.
The event is free, however, you need to register here.
Homes and Hollows This event is for 6 to 12-year-olds and is an exploration of the beautiful bushland area of Yarran Dheran. Children can wander and check out all the different places in the bush that provide perfect homes for the animals that live there.
Children will also be shown how they can make their own garden an inviting habitat to attract animals! Meeting place is at the visitor centre and once again, remember to wear a hat, sunscreen and suitable enclosed footwear.
Please note: Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please also note re the fire bans as per the first event.
This one will be held at the Yarran Dheran Nature Reserve, Ashburton Drive, Mitcham. It will be held on 23rd January, from 10.00 am till 12 noon. It is also a FREE event and you can register here.
Australian Animals at the Lake

They will learn about some of the special features that help these animals survive in our harsh Australian environment.
You will meet at the visitor centre and once again, remember the items you need to bring as per the other events. Please note: children must be accompanied by an adult and the fire ban also again applies.
