Council offers active daily programs to stop teenage boredom
Moreton Bay Shire Council SHAFT

It's the same story in many houses across Brisbane, and indeed Australia. It's school holidays and teenagers are bored, can't get the motivation to work on that assignment that's due next term, couldn't possibly consider doing any work around the house, and basically, driving their parents and themselves around the twist.

We love them, but it's so hard to keep them occupied without spending a lot of money.

Enter the SHAFT program offered each school holidays by the Moreton Bay Shire Council. SHAFT is short for School Holiday Activities For Teenagers.

SHAFT is a program introduced by Moreton Bay Regional Council for students who reside in or attend high school in the Moreton Bay region.

There is a wonderful range of activities on offer, including:

Self Defence
Rock climbing
Survivor challenge
Mountain bike adventure
Stand up paddleboarding
Grand Prix Go-carting
Mountain biking
Laser tag
Wakeboarding and Aqua fun park
Redcliffe beach adventure
Low ropes
Ten pin bowling
Putt putt
Healthy food courses
Ice skating
Learn to surf
Laser skirmish

Attendees are encouraged to get together with a friend or two from school or brothers and sisters and sign up together. Rather than sit around bored, teenagers can go to these fantastic mornings or afternoons out, learn new experiences, meet new friends and have some fun holiday adventures to talk about when they go back to school. Why stop at one, meet new people and sign up together for a few different activities?

The timetable is available here.

Conveniently, bookings are able to be made online on the Council site.

The exciting range of activities are subsidised by Council, making them more affordable and accessible for students.

Download the brochure for more information or jump on the Council website.

Any student attending high school in 2014 and living in or attend high school in the Moreton Bay Region can participate in any of the SHAFT holiday activities. Positions fill fast so I would encourage you to telephone or jump on the website as soon as possible to secure a place in the activity or activities of interest. Don't wait until the day before, as chances are the places will be filled by then.

SHAFT is a drug, smoking and alcohol free program.
