For something a little different these school holidays how about some historically focussed entertainment? The kids might even learn something while they are enjoying themselves.

The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology always has great events. These school holidays on July 2 the museum is hosting the Abbey Kids' Medieval Fun Day .

Aimed at 3-12 year olds, entry is only $4. Kids get to try their hand at stilt walking, trebuchet firing, medieval games and story telling. You can also book your child into a workshop where they can learn jousting, archery, gypsy or Middle Eastern dancing or train to be a Knight. Food and drink will be available or you can also bring your own picnic.

At Fort Lytton National Park kids aged 6-12 years can attend Raiders of The Lost Fort . Under the guidance of an archaeologist and professional actors kids get to try their hand at an archaeological dig and try to unearth the secret of the fort. This activity only costs $8 but bookings are required. It runs from 10-12.30 on three days on 25, 26 & 27 June.
