Schnitz is the brainchild of a Melbourne born polish entrepreneur. It burst onto the Melbourne food scene in 2007. The first store I ever went to was on Bridge Road. It used to be a regular haunt for me, especially between shift work. I knew that I was also guaranteed to have a fast, fresh and delicious schnitzel with a super fresh salad. I used to go here when I had a craving for my friend's Mum's schnitzel.
I was introduced to Polish schnitzels when I did my first stint of university. My friend's mum came to Australia from Poland and at every major event my friend's mum would cook her famous schnitzel. No matter the occasion the chicken schnitzels she made were the first thing to be eaten. Her mum used a secret polish recipe to make them so delicious. The Schnitz schnitzels are still second best to my friend's mum's home made schnitzels.
Schnitz has now been franchised and is at many different locations. The QV Centre location is a large store, and the service is good. It has proper cutlery and you can also get takeaway. The schnitzels continue to be cooked fresh.
Menu options range from schnitzel fingers (for kids), chips, to schnitzels in wraps and burgers. There is something for everyone's taste. Schnitzels come in a range of varieties from original to spicy and include Chicken, Veal, Pork and Fish.
