Nestling in the south-west of the Sunshine State is 4,250 km2 of outstanding natural beauty and a home to everything from action and adventure to relax and reinvigorate. The Scenic Rim is approximately an hour south west of Brisbane and incorporates the townships of Beaudesert, Boonah, Tamborine Mountain and Rathdowney, the region has plenty of choice for those looking for a day trip, weekend getaway or a longer stay.

With over 30,000 hectares of parkland, including eight national parks, you can literally trip over camping sites and outdoor activities in the region. Lamington National Park is a world heritage listed park and home to a variety of forest valleys and ranges that peak at 1,100m at the crest of McPherson Range. A variety of half and full day walks are available in Lamington National Park with difficulty ranging from beginner to experienced bushwalkers and camping in also available in the park. Experienced bushwalkers with time on their hands might like to try the 54 kilometre Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk which starts in Lamington National Park. On this walk, you experience walking on the rim of an ancient volcano and it is recommended that you allow 3 days to complete the walk.

For those who want to experience the bush of the Scenic Rim but believe that legs were made for accelerator and clutch pedals, then Scenic Rim Adventure Park might be the way for you to enjoy the views and smells of the region. Located in just under 300 hectares of parkland and including camping sites and 2 dams for swimming, Scenic Rim Adventure Park has over 100 tracks for all-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles. Tracks are graded from easy to extreme and cater for beginner to experienced off-road driver.

Don't own a four-wheel drive? Driving tours of the Scenic Rim can take you past wineries, farm yards and lift you into the clouds in the mountain ranges. For non-drivers, Tambourine Mountain Tours offers a hop on hop off all day pass for a tram style trolley bus that traverses the mountain taking you past wineries, restaurants and into the national park where you can visit glow worm caves or wander along the Skywalk.

Are the above activities sounding too outdoorsy and too much like hard work? Don't worry, Scenic Rim can cater for nearly every activity known to humankind and relaxing, reinvigorating and tantalising the senses can be found in wine trails, pub trails, spa treatments and gastronomic delights. Situated in Lamington National Park, O'Reilly's Lost World Spa offers a day spa treatment to refresh, relax and reinvigorate both body and mind. With 14 wineries in the region, the Hinterland Food and Wine Trail is a not to be missed experience for any wine buff (or wannabe wine buff).

The Scenic Rim is located around an hour's drive south-west of Brisbane and can be accessed by road and some aspects of the region are accessible by public transport.
