A day of triple joys.

Just back from a visit to the Scenic Rim Farm Shop, located at 541 Kents Lagoon Road, Kalbar 4309. It is an hour's drive from Brisbane and I would say go now!

In the centre of the farm is a 120-year-old Jacaranda tree, planted by owners a few generations ago, which is in full bloom. Just in case you miss it and as a reminder of how beautiful it is, here is a photo:


At the shop, we met Genevieve Windley, who recently bought the farm and started her business in March of 2021. This was previously a Rose Farm belonging to Pam and Randall, who were only too happy to pass the land over to this young and energetic couple. As the new custodians of the land, as Gen described themselves, she felt the responsibility of carrying on their connection to the place and the land. She set up Farm Box in the space of three weeks. This is a delivery service of fresh farm produce, now with the addition of tasty meals.



They run a farm next door which supplies some of the produce that is sold at the Farm Shop but also stock local suppliers of honey and nuts and pickles and spices. There is a lot on offer, not to mention the fresh produce which appears daily. The Farm Shop also has a cafe and this is run by the talented Kate Raymont, who cooks the most delicious cakes and savouries for the cafe. I don't think I have tasted a more delicious pumpkin and orange cake and the honey and yoghurt cake was not only visually stunning, with all its edible flowers, but so marvellously moreish.



As if all this is not enough, right next door is Elderflower Farm a beautiful little shop selling freshly cut flowers and a lot of other garden and homewares. Rachel is there to show you around the shop and if you are lucky, the garden as well, where she is currently growing her zinnias and delphiniums but can also show you a rare Green Rose.



Tea and coffee can be enjoyed under the large persimmon tree and the jacaranda buds fill the air. A sleepy frogmouth was viewing us from high.
