A weekend of Scottish celebrations
Celebrate the Clydesdale horse and the Scenic Rim's rich Scottish history in Boonah this June. Featuring the Fassifern Highland Gathering, the 2018 Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular is an event not to be missed.
Held on the 16th and 17th of June 2018 at the Boonah Showgrounds, the Clydesdale Spectacular showcases the best of breed and is the premier breed-specific show for Clydesdales in Queensland.
Featuring shire stud classes, heavy horses in harness, ploughing demonstrations and a harness making display, the Clydesdale program is packed with competitions, championships, auctions, demonstrations and workshops.
In tribute to the Scottish descendants that settled in the region, the festival also includes highland dancing, pipes and drums and caber tossing. Opening with a Quaich ceremony where dignitaries share a silver vessel filled with Highland Whiskey, the traditions continue with the Grand Parade and the Calling of the Clans.
Pipe and drum bands from around Queensland join forces for the Grand Parade, creating a stirring rendition of Scottish tunes while adding a touch of Aussie zest.
Pipes and Drums
The Scottish fayre bursts with flavour. These Scottish delights may include the "Wee Beasties of the Glen" – Haggis meatballs served with stovies and whisky gravy, "Cullen Skink" – fish soup; and "Black 'n' Tan" – bacon and black pudding sliders. There are also plenty of Aussie options on the menu including billy tea and damper.
The festivities continue into the night with the Wheelwright Campfire Dinner, held in a large shed in the showgrounds. Purchasing tickets in advance for this dinner is recommended.
