Celebrating everything Scottish
June is the perfect month for a wee bit of horsing around in the Scenic Rim as the Clydesdale Spectacular is back for its seventh year. Celebrating the iconic Clydesdale horse and the Scenic Rim's rich Scottish heritage, this event is packed with activities for all ages.
Held on the 15th and 16th of June 2019 at the Boonah Showgrounds, the Clydesdale Spectacular showcases the best of breed and is the premier breed-specific show for Clydesdales in Queensland.
Featuring shire stud classes, heavy horses in harness, ploughing demonstrations and a harness making display, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained. The Clydesdale program includes competitions, championships, auctions, demonstrations and workshops.
In tribute to the Scottish descendants that settled in the region, the festival features plenty of Scottish fun. Featuring the Fassifern Highland Gathering, the Clydesdale Spectacular opens with a Quaich ceremony. The traditions continue with the Grand Parade and the Calling of the Clans. Other activities include highland dancing, pipes and drums and caber tossing. There's also the opportunity to sample whiskey and try haggis.
The festivities continue into the night with the Wheelwright Campfire Dinner, held in a large shed in the showgrounds. Purchasing tickets in advance for this dinner is recommended.
For the ultimate weekend, consider purchasing the Glamping with the Clydesdales Package which includes two days entry into the Clydesdale Spectacular, entry into the Wheelwright's Campfire dinner, onsite glamping accommodation on the Friday and Saturday night, a glass of champagne on arrival, and the opportunity feed the Clydesdales and meet the breeders. The package for two people is $499 and $649 for four people. To book this memorable weekend, phone 0407960029.
