Celebrating everything Scottish
June is the perfect month for a wee bit of horsing around in the Scenic Rim as the Clydesdale Spectacular is back for its 8th year. Celebrating the iconic Clydesdale horse and the Scenic Rim's rich Scottish heritage, this two day event is packed with activities for all ages.

Held on the 12th and 13th of June 2021 at the Boonah Showgrounds, the Clydesdale Spectacular showcases the best of breed and is the richest Clydesdale Show in the Southern Hemisphere. Grand champions of the breed will be judged, the Scottish heritage of the breed shared and the history of the breed in Australia, and in the Scenic Rim, is celebrated.

Featuring shire stud classes, heavy horses in harness, ploughing demonstrations and a harness making display, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained. The Clydesdale program includes competitions, championships, auctions, demonstrations and workshops.

Other events not to miss are the Queensland Whip Cracking Titles, the World Billy Boiling Competition and the wood chopping.

In tribute to the Scottish descendants that settled in the region, the festival features plenty of Scottish fun. Featuring the Fassifern Highland Gathering, the Clydesdale Spectacular opens with a Quaich ceremony. The traditions continue with the Grand Parade and the Calling of the Clans. Other activities include highland dancing, pipes and drums and caber tossing. There's also the opportunity to sample whiskey and try haggis.

The Grand Parade is a highlight as pipe and drum bands from around Queensland join forces, creating a stirring rendition of Scottish tunes.

The festivities continue into the night with the Wheelwright Campfire Dinner, held in a large shed in the showgrounds. Purchasing tickets in advance for this dinner is recommended.
