Scattered Arts, established in 1967, is one of Brisbane's oldest exhibiting art and craft galleries, which is run on a volunteer basis by artists for artists.

The team at Scattered Arts also host a variety of affordable art and craft classes for adults and children in their studio space.

In these inspiring surrounds, students of all abilities are invited to learn from fellow artists and develop their own skills and artistic styles.

There are five classes for adults for choose from, each hosted by an experienced tutor who is keen to share their knowledge and tips and tricks.



*Monday Classes - Watercolour painting with award winning artist, Maria Field

Morning Class: 9.30am to 12.30pm weekly.
Afternoon Class: 1.00pm to 4.00pm fortnightly.

  • Learn how to paint in this exciting and transparent medium, learning various techniques at your level. Emphasis is placed on developing skills to compose your own paintings, whether floral, landscape, seascape, or portraits.

  • Cost: $35 per class. Materials are not supplied. A list will be supplied on booking.

    *Tuesday - Coiled basket workshop with Glenys Homann

    Classes May 27 & June 24 2014 (workshop is conducted over 2 days).
    10.30am to 2.30pm, with a half hour break for lunch.

  • In this workshop, participants will produce a small coiled basket using jute twin and a coiling technique, which is a classic basketry method in which a core of fibre is continually worked in a spiral motion to complete a form.

  • Cost: $50 (Total for both days). Plus $10 material fee paid to tutor at workshop.

    *Wednesday - Into Abstraction with Robert Andrews

    Course starts May 14 and ends July 2, 2014
    10am to 2pm weekly, with a half hour break for lunch.

  • This course introduces participants to some of the many types of abstract painting. It helps ease participants into creating abstracts and multi-media works by using painted and/or drawn sketches of everyday objects as the starting point for their compositions.

  • Cost: $35 per class ($315 total cost). Materials not supplied. A list will be provided on booking.

    *Thursday - The Art of Portraiture with Krystal Lopez-Barahona

    Course fortnightly from May 7 to September 4, 2014
    10.30am to 2.30pm, with a half hour break for lunch.

  • This course is designed for people who want to improve their painting skills, learn more about portraiture and the anatomy of the face. Participants will walk away with a finished portrait of their own.

  • Cost: $40 per class ($400 total cost). Materials not supplied. A list will be provided on booking.

    *Thursday - Beginner's Printmaking with Ann Roworth

    Classes Thursday May 22, June 19 and July 17 2014
    10.30am to 3.00pm, with a half hour break for lunch.

  • Ann's classes will show you how to create your own evocative works on paper using a range of printmaking, layering and drawing techniques. Participants will experiment with mono-printing using a roller, relief printing using foam plates and printing with a special tool called a baren.

  • Cost: $50 per class $10 materials

    *Friday Get-togethers with Ailsa McEvoy

    Coffee/Craft/Chat: 9.30am to 12.30pm

  • Come along for some quality time with other crafters, work on your own project, or learn new techniques from crafters who really know what they're doing. Materials are not supplied.

  • Cost: $7 per session.

    Classes for children are conveniently held on Saturdays:

    *Saturday for Children

    Goldfish painting with Andrea Christou
    Classes 24, and 31 May 2014 - 10.30am to 12.30pm

  • These classes aim to teach children about warm and cool colours, texture, line repetition and composition. All materials are supplied.

  • Cost: $25 per class.

    *Kid's Printmaking with Ann Roworth

    Classes 24 and 31 May 2014 - 1.00pm to 3pm

  • These classes aim to teach children about basic printing methods and are suitable for age groups 5 - 7 and 8 - 12 years. All materials are supplied.

  • Cost: $30 per class

    *Every third Saturday of the month - hand-built pottery for children with Jan Steer

    10.00am to 12.00pm (Public holidays excepted)

  • An extra special class for creative children who like to work with clay.

  • Cost: $28 per child, per class. All materials and firing included.

    And on Sundays, you can *Learn to paint in either acrylics or oils with Cary McAulay.

  • Award winning painter, Cary McAulay, will show students how to use both oils and acrylics effectively. He'll also instruct on colour and composition.

  • Adults classes: 12.30pm to 2.30 pm for acrylics and 4.00pm to 6.00pm for water-mixable oils. Children's class: 9.30am to 11.30am for acrylics.

    Cost: $35 per class for adults in both acrylics and oils, $25 per class for children.
