Cooks and food enthusiasts will have the chance to practise their pickling this upcoming weekend, with the Melbourne Museum hosting a workshop on Scandinavian food.

On Sunday, July 22, work-shoppers will make their own pickling liquid and prepare a jar of winter vegetables to take home and enjoy in their own time.

Host Lasse Povlsen, an experienced chef who grew up in countryside Denmark, will show you the process, at the same time speaking about unique methods of Scandinavian food preparation, including their approach to curing local salmon.

You may have even tasted Povlsen's food before; in the past, he's worked at Attica, Supernormal and Cumulus Inc in Melbourne.

He's even kind enough to share some of the pickles he's prepared at an early date, to give you a taste of what's possible.

While at the museum, you can visit the Vikings: Beyond the Legend exhibition to gain a sense of Scandinavia's historical culture, beyond food.

The exhibition aims to debunk the image of Vikings as rowdy invaders in helmets, showing instead their domestic life and beliefs with the help of over 450 artefacts.

Book to cook ; tickets are $65 for museum members, $74 for concession and $80 for adults.
