Sazerac Bar

Sazerac is Brisbane's highest bar and lounge. It is situated on Level 30 of the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Mary Street in the centre of Brisbane. The area has recently been refurbished from its former life as a gym and fitness space.

The décor is ultra-modern and swanky with the view taking centre stage. The area is separated into three different sections, while the largest space near the bar provides the most spectacular view. You can even see the Storey Bridge, which would look dazzling at night lit up. If you want to get a seat with the best view, you'll need to book ahead.

We arrived on Sunday and perched on some not so comfy bar stools. Most people seemed to be having the high tea which was delivered in an open bookcase. This costs from $39 per head depending on whether you have a glass of wine or Mumm's champagne with it.

The menu has small list of grazing plates and a page of cocktails. The Sazerac signature cocktail contains Buffalo Trace, Peychaud bitters and Absinthe. According to Wikipedia Sazerac is "a local New Orleans variation of a Cognac or whiskey cocktail, named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils brand of Cognac brandy that served as its original main ingredient.

I tried the Bloomsbury Punch for $16 which was Tanqueray Gin served with iced earl tea and lemon. It was citrusy and light, but I'm over the copper mug trend.

My companion ordered 99 Problems, joking that he was glad he didn't have 100 Problems. He enjoyed his martini with Melbourne Gin Co martini, stirred with Lillet Vermouth and Blueberry liqueur.

There are promotions most days at Sazerac. Mondays celebrate all things malt with 25% of all whiskeys, including their signature namesake whiskey. Wednesdays you'll need to invite your friends and enjoy the third shared plate free. Thursdays are devoted to premium white and red wines plus a sparkling for just $10 a glass. There's a resident DJ on Fridays with complimentary pass-around canapes from 5pm to 6pm.

Sazerac Bar is a relaxing hip place where you'll need to wear your best smart casual outfit to enjoy a glass of your favourite unwinding beverage.
