The
Saxon Street Festival on
Sun 1 December 2019 from 10am to 4pm at
Siteworks, 33 Saxon St, Brunswick (the
Festival will be held in the outside areas, Workroom 1, 5 & the Community Room) is also a fundraiser for GMAR (
Grandmothers Against Removals ) and as such,
entry is by $$$ donation.
GMAR is a grassroots group led by Aboriginal grandmothers who have been fighting the ongoing
Stolen Generations all around
Australia since 2014.
There's a full lineup of music, artists, workshops, performances, market stalls and more to be announced. Stay tuned via the
event page for more information, updates, and to interact with the organisers. You can choose your own adventure on the day with an opportunity to attend a workshop, watch a performance, perhaps splash on a piece of art from the gallery, grab some food and a cold brew coffee and more. With market stalls on-site, you'll be able to grab a handmade gift for that someone special; what with Christmas hot on our heels.
An all-ages, child-friendly, safe event, there'll be no strobe lighting used, and food available will have vegan, GF and allergy-friendly options.
"
Grandmas Against Removals is about enabling local communities to have a say in Aboriginal child protection to prevent removals and where necessary, ensure children are cared for by their extended family within their local community." - Lidia Thorpe
