SAVOUR is back. The DBS Live Your Dream initiative is back seeking out the next generation of home-grown culinary superstars.
Here are 8 teams of homegrown chefs pairing up with their mentors eyeing for a spot in the final held in November 2016:
Team Salt Tapas: Luke Mangan & Ronald Li Chef Luke is a renowned Australian celebrity chef. Ronald had studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and worked for Brasserie Wolf, Le Cordon Bleu, and Restaurant Andre. He is now the Head Chef carrying on Luke's philosophy of keeping food simple and fresh.
Team Lower East Side: Claudio Sandri & Michael Yeong
The Swiss-born Chef Claudio has chalked up an 15-year career at renowned restaurants such as Nobu and Brasserie Joel. Michael is the Executive Sous Chef at the first Mexican-inspired concept at East Coast Road.
Team Buona Terra: Dennis Lucchi & William Bai Chef Denis has worked for premier restaurants in London, Rome and Singapore. Now he showcases the best of Northern Italian cuisine. William is the Junior Sous Chef with 7 years of experience. He had cooked for ex-President S.R. Nathan.
Team Saveur Art: Tyler Lai & Allen Tan Chef Tyler, the Chef De Cuisine of Saveur Art, worked for some fine dining restaurants such as Guy Savoy and JAAN. Allen has an impressive working experience where he spent 2 years each at Les Amis and JAAN. He wishes to bring modern French desserts to Singapore diners.
Team CATO: Ethan Li & Tommy Kim Korean-born Tommy was inspired by Akira Back who went on to compete against Bobby Flay in Iron Chef America. He has learnt classic French techniques and experiments with bold Asian flavours under tutelage of Chef Ethan.
Team Gattopardo: Lino Sauro & Kenneth Oh Chef Lino who was born into a Sicilian farmer family is proud of his heritage; hence, he emphasises on freshness and seasonality. Kenneth, the chef de cuisine who joined him in 2011, favors simplicity and believes there should be a reason why every single ingredient be on the plate.
Team Artichoke: Bjorn Shen & Jonathan Lee Bjorn wears many hats: chef and owner of Artichoke, a lecturer, a columnist, and the Asia-Pacific chef ambassador for a United Nations food project. Jonathan who prefers to build big flavours with a wood fired hearth and brick oven over fancy presentations joined the funky Middle Eastern restaurant 6 years ago.
Team Bar-A-Thym: Francois Mermilliod, Shameem Abdullah, & Muhd Zulkefle Francois has chalked up 20 years experience in Australia and Singapore. He has 2 mentors under his tutelage. Shemeem is the Pastry Chef who had worked for top hotels in Singapore, and Zul is the Sous Chef who had worked for Braise, Guy Savoy and The Prime Society.
