Saver Saturday Dining Specials in Sydney

Having spent the last few years living abroad I now wish to rediscover my home city of Sydney to keep that 'travelling feeling' and share my findings with those that might want a bit of inspiration.

Less money on food = More money for drink
On Saturdays; the premier night of the week to go out there are very few places that promote a daily special as they know they'll have patrons anyway – why make a loss?

These stalwarts of the drinking/dining scene don't stop the discounts just because the weekend and party-people have arrived. To stretch your dollars further into the evening head to any of these places for a cut-price meal;

1)The Stoned Crow; 39 Willoughby Road, Crows Nest

This North-Shore favourite bar earns a top place in our list for ensuring a deal every night of the week. Saturdays and Sundays are no different with this modern bar serving up 4 of their gorgeous gourmet pizzas for only $7.50. Unlike other specials as well you don't just get a basic 'margarita' on special, toppings include smoky chorizo and even a Mexican beef dripping in sour cream and guacamole. Sadly they used to be $5.95 on the weekends however an extra $1.55 isn't enough to deter us; particularly as frozen cocktails are only $7 a pop and a bottle of sparkling is a negligible $29. The bar staff are friendly, the vibe is relaxed, the décor is funky cow hide, vines and wood; they don't put a single foot wrong. Click here for more details.

2) Pad Thai 5 Dollar; 151 Bridge Road, Glebe

Sydney's love affair with Thai food is yet to dampen. With winter setting in it should only increase as who doesn't love the delightful combination of sweet and spicy that accompanies many dishes. Allowing you to indulge as often as you like without breaking the bank is Glebe's aptly titled Pad Thai 5 Dollar restaurant. That's right; the restaurant serves up generous portions of pad thai, pad see ew and red curry all for $5 each. Perfect for lining your stomach before continuing onto the pubs and bars down Glebe Point Road

3) Café Lounge; 277 Goulburn Street, Surry Hills

Another Saturday pizza special on this list is in Sydney's Eastern suburb of Surry Hills. The eclectic Café Lounge at 277 Goulburn Street is the perfect place to kick off an evening bouncing between all our favourite bars and clubs on the Eastern fringe. Between 5& 7pm you can get the ball rolling with $5 drinks and $7 pizzas! Some of the toppings are a little unusual such as the prawn & banana pizza or the Sunday Roast pizza however others are more traditional; and all sound completely delicious! Click here to access the full menu.

Open from 4pm you can settle into your spot, then drink and dine to your hearts content in a darkened grotto that will make you feel transported away from the Sydney scene. Later in the evenings wicked DJ's spin the tunes whilst Sundays sees live jazz and swing bands shaking the ceiling with the same $7 pizza special on offer. Perhaps you should have your recovery session there the next day too!

4) The Roxbury Hotel; 182 St Johns Road, Glebe

Now you'll have seen in our other daily dining specials that multiple bars do steak night – however incidentally none fall on a Saturday when blokes want it the most! The Roxbury Hotel in Glebe is your savior lads; for $10 you can fill up any day of the week (including Saturdays!) on Rump steak with your choice of mushroom, peppercorn or garlic onion sauce with either chips or mash and beans or salad. What a deal – even your sauce is included! Head on early as the Roxbury features live music on Saturday nights and if you arrive late cover-charges apply.
