Keep 18 and 19 November 2017 free on your calendar for a two day event that is the Satsuki Azalea Show at the Bonsai Art Nursery, 236 Old Dandenong Rd, Heatherton from 10am to 4pm each day. Entry is free and there'll be 50 plus magnificent trees on display. Well known Satsuki expert Arthur Robinson will be on hand with morning and afternoon demonstrations each day at approximately 11am and 1.30pm (times to be confirmed, so please keep checking back on their Facebook page), so you can hear from the expert himself about the flowering Japanese Satsuki and Azalea Bonsai, and vote for the 'Best in Show' while you're at it.
Satsuki is a unique group of azaleas that flower in mid-spring to early summer, while normal garden azaleas flower in late winter to early spring. Still relatively new to Australia, Satsuki has been cultivated in Japan for centuries. They're very hardy, making it an excellent bonsai for beginners to advanced enthusiasts. Satsuki flower profusely with a spectacular range of flowers. A single tree can not only have flowers of different colours, but also flowers of different shapes. Sounds amazing!
