Sate Khas Senayan, Kuta

Among its many locations across Indonesia,
Sate Khas Senayan can be found at
Beachwalk Shopping Centre in Kuta. The restaurant offers unique local cuisine in a comfortable environment. Its dishes are traditional and authentic. We dined there on our recent trip to Bali and were not disappointed.
Ayam betutu is a long-established Balinese chicken dish. The chicken we ordered was richly spiced and tasted fantastic, although a little hotter than I'd expected. It came with water spinach, fried boiled egg and sambal.
Sate lilit ayam, on the other hand, is a satay variant originating from Bali. Minced and marinated, the chicken is then wrapped around a flat, wide bamboo skewer before being grilled. All five of our skewers were beautifully made. They had a delicious spicy flavour to them, which I simply loved. These dishes might not suit your taste buds though, if chillies aren't quite your thing.
For dessert, I had
es campur while my friend tried
es cendol. The
es cendol consisted of green noodle jelly with palm sugar syrup, while the
es campur, as its name suggests, had a 'mix' of ingredients. The assortment comprised sugar palm fruit, red pearl jelly, avocado, coconut meat and sticky fermented cassava, all served in coconut milk. Having pieces of avocado in my dessert was a first for me! But, overall, it was surprisingly nice. My friend also enjoyed her dessert.
Last but not least, we experienced warm hospitality and good attentive service while dining at Sate Khas Senayan. I would have no hesitation returning next time I'm in Kuta. I thought the prices were very reasonable too - an average of Rp90,000 (9AUD) for rice dishes, Rp60,000 (6AUD) for skewers and Rp50,000 (5AUD) for desserts.
