After a nice walk in the Dandenong Ranges, we decided to go for a drive to the beautiful town of Sassafras.

Although being Good Friday it was extremely busy, finding a parking space was difficult and everyone seems to forget the road rules on holidays. However, all is forgotten when you step out of the car and feel the cool crisp air, the smell of wood smoke and the sounds of Currawongs.

There are many gift shops and cafes in Sassafras, all are very popular with high traffic flow on the day we visited.

Some of the stand out places we visited are:

Miss Marples has been a place I have always wanted to try, unfortunately there were no seats left, and plenty of people waiting to fill them. I would suggest booking beforehand. Ms Marples has always had a fantastic reputation, especially famous for their Devonshire tea, I'm told their scones are amazing. It must be true with the amount of people here.

Right next door is Tea Leaves , a small shop with Melbourne's largest range of quirky tea pots and over 300 variates of tea leaves from all over the world, not to mention a great range of coffee beans. This really is a treasure chest for tea lovers.

On the opposite side of the road there was Geppetto's Toy Store , where the front window is more like a child's movie scene. The inside is filled to the rafters of various toys, even hanging from the roof, luckily my children missed this shop. I don't think we could fit another toy in the house.

The kids didn't take long to find Sassafrass Sweet Co. After a long walk, they thought they deserved a treat. It took them 15 minutes to look around the shop and consider all the options before making their selection. Surprisingly, $2 (in total) was enough to cover their lollies.

There are plenty many other little towns in the Dandenongs that are worth a visit, including:

-Monbulk: Tesselaar's
-Olinda: Rhododendron Gardens
-Belgrave: Puffing Billy Main Station
-Emerald: Emerald Lake and Puffing Billy Train Station
-Kallista: Grants Picnic Ground, George Tindale Gardens
-Sherbrooke: Alfred Nicholas Gardens
-Mt Dandenong: William Rickets Sanctuary , Sky High Lookout
