Sarah's Sister's is an iconic vegetarian/vegan licensed cafe on Semaphore Road. What sets it apart from other cafes and restaurants on this bustling strip is an unwavering commitment to run as a sustainable and environmentally responsible business. Originally established on Hutt Street in 1978 by maitre de Stuart Gifford and cook extraordinaire Marion Prosser, Sarah's Sister's was built on a framework of 'think global, act local', and it's ingrained in everything they do!

This ethos has served them well through several iterations of 'Sarah's' through to the cafe's present location on Semaphore Road. It's all about minimising energy consumption and food wastage at every stage of the operation. To do this they use fresh, seasonal local produce and beverages; not only do they taste delicious, but this ensures the benefits stay with the local producers and the community. Even better, this also minimises transportation of goods and is therefore better for the environment.

This sustainable attitude doesn't stop just at produce and beverages; it also applies to the furnishings! You'll see that a strict recycle-and-reuse ethic applies throughout. Go inside and you'll find a cosy cafe-style area at the front. Walk a little further and you'll find yourself in a spectacular, bright and colourful north facing dining room. Its unique diagonal shape and quirky decor (think bicycles on the ceiling!) make it an interesting place to while away time with friends. An alfresco dining area is located just outside and together with the dining room overlooks the beautiful, natural greenery of the adjacent garden centre.

Sarah's Sister's is open daily for breakfast and lunch, and on Friday nights for dinner. Our personal favourite is to gather a group of friends for the chef's degustation. This way you can try a little bit of everything! From vegetarian soups bursting with flavour to fresh cooling salads, delicious locally produced cheeses and intricate main-course creations, there's something for everyone and you are bound to be surprised and impressed by the flavour and quality of the dishes placed in front of you.

Burger fans will not be disappointed. Delicious and healthy open burgers are now available on the weekday menu and can even be prepared vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. Or for a real treat why not try their indulgent cheese burger!

What would a great meal be without a drop or two to wash it down with? Enjoy something from their extensive range of beer and wine and you'll be supporting SA family businesses such as Coopers, Pirramimma and Torzi Matthews with every sip.

Sarah's Sister's is recently extended their opening hours until 6pm weeknights for those wanting to drop in for a late lunch and organic coffee, or maybe even to pick something up for take away. Either way, your coffee will only be $1 with any meal after 3.30pm. Sweet-tooth's out there may even choose to pair up their coffee with a slice of freshly baked cake... (hint: we think this is a great idea!)

Have bike will travel? We've got great news for you! Sarah's Sister's is 100% bike friendly! What better way to finish up a cycling tour of Semaphore than to stop for a delicious bite, beverage or both before your journey home?

Visit Sarah's Sister's and you'll not only be assured a fantastic meal, you'll also be supporting local SA businesses and the environment. What more could you possibly ask for?

**We give 4.5/5 Wanders for their community-focused and environmentally-active approach to business, not to mention their absolutely delicious food!

Where 1 Wander isn't worth getting off the couch for and 5 Wanders should leave a trail of dust in your wake: it's that good.**
