I have always loved a good health food shop so walking into Santos Life, a natural food store, on a cold blustery winters day was exactly the pick me up I needed. Located in a very beautiful old federation building in the heart of Mullumbimby, this amazing health food shop is full to the brim of organic foods, fresh fruit and vegetables, soaps, shampoos, a range of chocolate and carob sweets that I have never seen before, books, herbs, vitamins, tonics, coconut products, home ware's - the list is simply endless. In fact, you can order everything
online.

Downtown Mullumbimby
There's also a cafe attached to the side of Santos where one can buy an array of healthy nibblies and the usual tea and coffee and, of course, healthy fresh coconut juice still in it's natural form, which you can see in the fridge.

Housed in a gorgeous old building
It's heartening to see a health food shop of this size abuzz. Many people these days aspire to live a healthier lifestyle, looking for a greener sustainable way of life and desire quality organic foods. It is fabulous to see these shops, not dissimilar to IGA, sprouting up across Australia. But 30 years ago buying a health food shop would have been a leap of faith. A leap that is obviously paying off for the owners and shareholders of Santos Life.

pure, organic, fresh vegies..
There are now three Santos Wholefood stores around Northern NSW. The other two are in Byron Bay (one being a warehouse).

yum. Healthy treats and so many to choose from
The above is organic chocolate, huge succulent chunks that get the taste buds watering just looking at it.

Jars of herbs line one whole wall
There were rows of raw herbs in tall jars and a large range of organic chocolate and carob also in clear jars making it easy to see exactly what you are buying. I saw a couple of products that I'd not seen elsewhere, carob syrup and coconut syrup, no doubt a sugar replacement and ideal for cooking yummy treats.
The list is endless really, so if you do make your way to Mullumbimby one day, take your time, have a good look around and buy yourself a lentil pie to munch on as you take it all in.
