Santa's Shaped Christmas Tree Farm at Gundaroo
There's nothing like the smell of a fresh pine tree to level up your Christmas game and the good news is Santa's elves have an outpost just north of Canberra! Its a long way from the north pole but the magic of Christmas still hangs heavy in the air as the elves busily shape and prune a forest of Christmas trees ready to decorate your home.
Located in Gundaroo, around half an hour north of Gungahlin,
Santa's Shaped Christmas Tree Farm allows you to get out among the trees and decide which one will be perfect for your family home.
The farm is planned to make your Christmas tree experience fun and stress-free. When you arrive, you get a marker to tape on the tree you choose. The farm allows for car access to the main plantation areas so you can drive to the trees then get out for a stroll in the pine-scented air. Once you've picked your tree, one of Santa's helpers will help you to cut down the tree and trailer it back up to the shed where it will be netted up and ready for the trip home.

The joy of decorating the tree when you get home is the cherry on top but the entire experience of getting out and choosing your own tree (and supporting a local business as an added bonus) is so much fun that it's bound to become a family tradition! Santa's Shaped Christmas tree farm opens on 23 November and you can visit right up until Christmas Eve. Drinks and ice creams and Christmas tree stands are available on site and kids get a free Christmas bauble when you buy your tree. When planning your visit, keep in mind that it can get quite busy on weekends but even then the waits aren't unreasonable. Also, make sure you have a suitable car or trailer (there's more information on what vehicles are suitable for tree transport here).
So as Christmas creeps up for another year, get some Christmas carols pumping, jump in the car and before you know it, you'll be in a little pine forest of magic where your tree is waiting to join you for Christmas.
