Heading into the school holidays, parents of young children will be looking for ways to entertain them safely. Enter local theatre dynamo Anne Grant with Santa's Christmas Chaos. Anne has been resident on the Sunshine Coast for eight years and formed her company 3bCreative in 2016.

Anne believes that because there are many theatres still establishing, there is a lot of new energy and space for non-traditional festivals such as the Anywhere and Horizon events.

"There is a wave of new families with children who are interested in theatre and so the demographic is changing," she said. "As a result there are many youth theatre groups, such as Little Seed and Bytes, and Acting Up at Nambour."

"Audiences are supportive, and the Sunshine Coast Council has been fabulous, with grants and opportunities for playwrights to create new works that originate in the Sunny Coast."

Eileen the Elf discovers yet another problem. With Ali Lambole.

The impact of Covid19 has made learning new ways of presenting live entertainment essential. "The Anywhere festival already encouraged us to use small outdoor spaces which allowed for social distancing, and this approach has been adapted into proper Covid-safe plans," says Anne. "In the future, we may see theatres changing priorities away from large audience numbers, to putting on new works that perhaps don't require such expensive royalties. These measures enable us to keep going."

In this spirit, Anne and her talented team at 3bCreative will be presenting Santa's Christmas Chaos at the Buderim War Memorial Hall in December.

Written by Anne with Julie Bray, the play will feature original music by Marji Murray from the Palmwoods Little Village Choir. Singers from the choir will perform as reindeer (now THAT will be a sight to see!).

The audience will be treated to shenanigans from a very naughty dog, a chewed-up Santa suit, an overworked elf, and of course, Santa and Mrs Claus.

Anne says that while Santa's Christmas Chaos is presented for children, grownups will appreciate the in-jokes as well.

Anne asked parents what times would be most suitable, and following their advice has chosen shows at 10am and 4pm as being the most family-friendly.

Children will participate and interact with the cast, while the adults will be socially distanced at the back to ensure Covid safety. There will be Covid safe photos with Santa, a reindeer food gift for every child, and a colour-in Santa competition to look forward to.

"They can also bring a letter to Santa to post, and we'll make sure he gets it, too" said Anne.
