Last week, I took my 19 year old nephew on a boat charter. We woke at about 5am and drove to meet the boat skipper at Swansea. Darren is the owner and skipper of Sandy Bottom Boat Charter. On today's trip, we were going fishing off the coast on Newcastle and the Central Coast on NSW.

We began by heading out through Swansea channel and into the open waters. It was just after 6am and 16deg Celsius. The wind was up and the swell was about 2 metres. This lead to a choppy boat ride. Luckily the boat "Sandy" was well equipped to handle the spray and we all stayed nice and dry in the half cabin.

We spent 6 hours fishing off the coast of Newcastle. Everyone caught fish. Most were either undersized or Rock Cod, which aren't edible. Sometimes there are many types of fish caught. Today just wasn't that type of day for us.

These boat charters have become very popular. My brother has taken his 8 year old grand-daughter a couple of times and she absolutely loves it.
