Opened in May 2015, the Sandstone Point Hotel, is set on amazing grounds right on Pumicestone Passage across from Bribie Island. It is is becoming the place to go for food, drinks and entertainment in the Caboolutre and Bribie Island area.

The Sandstone Point Hotel is a family friendly hotel
Getting there is very easy as it is at Sandstone Point just before the bridge to Bribie Island. So basically follow the signs to Bribie island, and if you end up on the bridge you have gone too far. There is also a bus stop not far from the hotel (for people who have drunk a bit too much to drive home). But the cool people arrive by boat or kayak and get off at the jetty, have a meal and drink then continue on their way.

The venue itself is unique. The design is meant to represent a building slowly merging into the contours of the little hill that it sits on top of. In addition the grounds can hold up to 5000 people for various events and concerts. It is always a great idea to keep an eye on their calendar to see what is coming up. Even if there is no big event, there are regular bands and DJs.

Besides drinks and entertainment, there are great food options. Like many pubs by the sea, the seafood is of course excellent. There are perhaps too many battered fish options, but the grilled seafood and oysters are amazing.

There is a wide variety of food styles in their restaurant, from pizzas served on wooden platters and hamburgers (easy lunch for the kids) to great salads and innovative cuisine. What I like is that they are prepared to do more than just cook seafood in the simplest way possible (which too many hotels and seafood restaurants focus on), but enhance it with a range of flavours.

For people looking for a cheaper or lighter snack, The Oyster Shed continues a tradition dating back to the 19th century. This nice little takeaway seafood shop does your basic fish & chips as well as a range of fresh seafood options.

There are lots of reasons to go to this hotel. Certainly it should be part of a Bribie Island trip, or is worth heading out from Caboolture just to visit this wonderful venue. If you live further afield, then there are always some of the special events that are worth travelling to attend.

It is family friendly location. Not just with the menus, but there is a great unique playground as well. This kids climbing castle is designed to look like an outback farm, with rain water towers, windmills and sheds.
