What dog doesn't love to be off the leash having a good, long run? Add to that time to splash at the beach and you have a great time out for you and your pooch.
Most dogs adore time splashing in the waves. Unfortunately many swimmers do not care to share the water with a bunch of strange wet dogs and anyhow many councils restrict how often dogs can be on the beach unrestrained. That's where a place like Sandown Street Beach in Brighton comes in.
Bayside Council has set aside a stretch of the coast specifically for dogs, permitting them to be off leash at all times. This fantastic sand and rock foreshore area is located between Sandown Street and Bay Street, in Brighton. Situated by the Brighton Yacht Club, it includes sandy areas along with shallow areas to wade in as well as deep swimming areas. The area is fenced in, so those with less obedient puppies do not have to worry so much about their dogs running off.
Sunday mornings are particularly popular and dog lovers come from across Melbourne to give their canine companions some beachside fun. As well as exercising their dogs, owners have the opportunity to meet and chat with other dog owners.
If you and your dog still have energy to expend you can combine a visit to the dog beach with a walk along the paved foreshore path towards the city or to a café at nearby Bay Street. This should be a fun time out for both you and your favourite furry friend.
