I was told I should attend a park run one Saturday morning by a guy I met at a meetup.
What is a Park Run? It is a free 5k run. Apparently, they are everywhere. We have two here in the Illawarra. One being Sandon Point (Bulli) and the other one being at Killalea State Park. You register online and get a barcode to track your time.
I am just getting into running and am trying to meet some people my age (which is harder than it should be!) I decided I would go.
My closest is at Bulli but they call it Sandon Point to confuse you. They happen every Saturday at 8am.
So I rocked up on the day at Bulli Surf Club and watched everyone mingle thinking for sure I won't know anyone here.
At 8am, we moved to the other side of the car park and started. We run along the beach but on the grass for the majority of the 5k. We run all the way to the outskirts of Thirroul.
The view is amazing and according to one Gent I met, it is better than his local park run at Airlie Beach. He explained that everyone is always really friendly and it is just for fun. He also said that as you get used to it, you plan your getaways around park runs.
As I finished up I started talking to a client about it, who finished way before me and they were saying if you stick around long enough, you see that it always starts off big and gets smaller as winter comes.
At the end of your run, you scan your barcode so they can give you your time. They email the times to you and I was very impressed when I received it a couple of hours later.
Why should you do Park Run Sandon Point?1. You are running next to the best view in the world.
2. You get your workout done before the place gets crowded.
3. You can jump in the pool to cool down afterwards.
4. Or, just pig out on bacon and eggs at the café.
5. There are loads of people.
6. Someone will always be slower than you.
7. They track your time and work out your personal best.
8. Did I say it was free?
